ho identifies as ND/ADHD? Could this make you "Psychic?"

Recently, I had stumbled upon an online post about Hyperphantasia- which is the neurocognitive trait that allows someone to visualize (in their mind) with great detail, almost as if there is a movie playing within their imagination. There is a limited number of people in this world that do not have an inner monologue, and there are also people who cannot visualize, inside their head. So Hyperphantasia is something sort of unique! This opened up a discussion where people were connecting their neurodivergence, like ADHD or Autism, with overlapping traits of psychic abilities. Here are some interesting connections that I found and put together here: Many people notice similarities between traits of ADHD and what are often called “psychic” or intuitive abilities. This overlap does not mean ADHD gives someone supernatural or extraordinary powers. But it does seems to have some interesting intersections between these two things. Those connections could reflect how ADHD affects attention, imagination, emotions, as well as brain and sensory processing, possibly allowing for more cognitive flexibility and perception. One shared trait is heightened sensitivity. People with ADHD may notice sounds, emotions, or small changes in their environment more strongly than others. This can look a lot like intuition, but it is really the brain taking in more information and adapting to filter it. Another overlap involves hyperphantasia, the ability to visualize images in the mind with extreme detail. People with hyperphantasia have a vivid “mind’s eye,” meaning their imagination feels almost lifelike. In spiritual or psychic frameworks, this strong visual imagination is sometimes described as a tool for clairvoyance. From a neurological perspective, it reflects enhanced mental imagery, creativity, and your brains working memory, allowing the brain to process more information at a “high speed rate.” ADHD brains also form connections quickly. Thoughts jump rapidly between ideas, allowing for strong pattern recognition and sudden insights. Because these connections happen subconsciously, they can often feel like gut feelings or intuitive hits, even though they may be based on past experience and emotional cues. Emotional empathy is another common trait. Many people with ADHD deeply feel the emotions of others and may become drained, or overstimulated in social settings. This is often explained as sensing “energy,” but it can also be understood through the psychological lens of emotional attunement. Overall, the overlap between ADHD and psychic descriptions comes from vivid imagination, sensitivity, fast thinking, and emotional awareness, which could be a basis for additional perception and clairvoyant ability. What do you all think? Could there be a connection between the two? Does any of the above themes, resonate with you? Thanks for reading! Happy New Year to you all! -The Ava Oracle |
