I know It takes over 12 months before you can get a divorce from official separation. Will it be very long at all now before they separate and it is over for good. His wife is a psycho.

Your friend and your friends spouse must also have been separated for at least 12 months before applying for a divorce. Once their divorce is final there is a time limit of 12 months to apply to the court for property settlement or spousal maintenance. Separation for good will be within two months.
